The International Medical Graduates (IMG) Section was formed to provide increased IMG involvement in the Pennsylvania Medical Society and local county medical societies. The goals of the section include:
-
Increase IMGs' awareness of organized medicine in Pennsylvania and nationwide
-
Increase IMG membership and leadership in organized medicine, hospital medical staffs, and the community
-
Represent the interests of IMGs
-
Provide information and education on topics of interest to IMGs
By joining the Pennsylvania Medical Society, IMGs link forces with colleagues throughout Pennsylvania to strengthen the voice of medicine on behalf of patients and physicians. IMGs have a long history of fostering positive physician-patient relationships. Now IMGs have a way to work with one another to preserve the relationship and forge a better future for the entire medical profession.
The IMG Section and its governing leadership closely monitor issues of concern to their members including:
-
Inequality and discrimination within graduate medical education programs
-
Discrimination from HMO physician networks
-
Exclusion from hospital medical staff leadership positions
-
State licensure requirements
-
Acceptance within the profession
-
Reimbursement assistance and advice
