Claim Rejections Spike on NPI Deadline
Claim rejections soared May 23, 2008, the first day that National Provider Identifiers (NPIs) were required.
Rejection of Medicare and Medicaid claims quadrupled, while rejection of claims processed by Blues plans doubled, “Modern Physician” reported.
Insurers stopped accepting legacy identifiers on May 23, 2008, rejecting claims with a legacy identifier in any provider field.
