Patients Can Compare Hospital Quality of Care Information

Patients can find quality of care information, including ratings from other patients, for many of the nation’s hospitals on Hospital Compare.

The website, which is run by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), allows patients to see how hospitals stack up on 26 quality-of-care measures.

“Patients and their family members can use this information to see how well their hospitals are providing care, and hospitals can use the data to focus on areas where there is opportunity to improve the quality of care,” said Kerry Weems, acting administrator of CMS.

Patients can check out how hospitals measure up on pneumonia, heart attacks, heart failure, and health-care-associated infections. They can also see how other patients rated the hospital on communication, pain management, and cleanliness on the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey.

Survey results also show how patients ranked the hospital on a scale of 1 to 10 and whether they would recommend the hospital.
