Physicians Can Opt Out or Stay in Keystone Central Class Action Lawsuit

Pennsylvania physician practices may be affected by a class action lawsuit about whether Keystone Health Plan Central, Inc. (“Keystone Central”) and others improperly reduced, denied, or delayed payments to doctors and medical practices.

The lawsuit is called Grider v. Keystone Health Plan Central, Inc., Civil Action No. 2001-CV-5641 (E.D. Pa.) and is in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

The court decided this lawsuit should be a class action on behalf of a “class,” which includes physicians, physician groups, and medical service providers who rendered medical services to patients insured by Keystone Central at any time during the period from Jan. 1, 1996 through and including Oct. 5, 2001.

If you are a member of the class, you have to decide whether to stay in the class and be bound by whatever results occur in the class action, or ask to be excluded and keep your rights to sue Keystone Central and the other defendants. There is no money or other benefits available now, and no guarantee that there will be in the future.

More information about this lawsuit and the advantages and disadvantages of remaining in the class are in the class notice at www.jacobsenlaw-pa.com/html/cases.html. To ask to be excluded from the class you must follow the steps outlined in the class action notice by Aug. 28, 2007. If you want to remain in the class, you do not need to do anything.

The class action notice also identifies attorneys for the class who you may contact with any questions or for further information.
