(Harrisburg, Pa.) The Pennsylvania Medical Society recently was reaccredited and designated as an organization “Recognized with Commendation” by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (CME) as an accreditor of CME providers.

In earning its 6-year reaccreditation, the state medical society was honored with “exemplary compliance” ratings in four of five areas of review.

The Pennsylvania Medical Society currently accredits 63 CME providers throughout Pennsylvania. In addition, the medical society accredits approximately 140 direct and joint-sponsored CME activities during a calendar year, serving thousands of physicians statewide. CME offerings from the Pennsylvania Medical Society cover various issues including communication, risk management, practice dynamics, patient safety, domestic violence, and obesity issues.

The ACCME's goal is to identify, develop, and promote standards for quality CME utilized by physicians in their maintenance of competence and incorporation of new knowledge to improve quality medical care for patients and their communities. ACCME accreditation assures the medical community and the public that such activities provide physicians with information that can assist them in maintaining or improving their practice of medicine.

The Pennsylvania Medical Society has been working to enhance the patient-doctor relationship since 1848.
